Lowlands
The Scottish lowlands are home to several large grain distilleries, and a growing number of malt whisky producers. Historically the region was known for light, delicate malts that were predominantly used for blending. By the end of the 20th century only two malt whisky distilleries remained in production - Glenkinchie and Auchentoshan. There are now more than a dozen malt distilleries across the Lowlands, making whisky in a range of styles.
