Islay
(eye-la) Known as the 'Queen of the Hebrides', Islay is famous for its bold and smoky whiskies, made from heavily peated barley. Iconic distilleries such as Ardbeg, Laphroaig and Lagavulin are world renowned for their pungent uncompromising single malts, shaped by the Island’s coastal climate, abundant peat and traditional production methods. There are currently 10 distilleries on Islay (including the revived Port Ellen), with two more planned, ensuring a busy future for Scotland's smallest whisky region.
