About Bushmills
Bushmills traces its whiskey heritage to 1608, when King James I granted Sir Thomas Phillips a licence to distil in County Antrim. The Old Bushmills Distillery was formally registered in 1784 by Hugh Anderson, making it one of the most historic names in Irish whiskey. Production is centred in the village of Bushmills, close to the River Bush, with the distillery long associated with triple-distilled Irish whiskey made from malted barley.
A major fire destroyed much of the distillery in 1885, after which Bushmills was rebuilt and continued to grow through changing ownership, including Irish Distillers, Diageo and, from 2015, Proximo Spirits. Recent investment has focused heavily on single malt, with the Causeway Distillery opening in 2023 to expand production, alongside aged releases such as the 25 and 30 Year Old single malts.
