About Joe Colombo
The Smoke collection was born out of the original idea of a great Italian designer, a set of glasses designed to blend different pleasures in a single gesture. The asymmetrical foot of the Smoke glasses is designed to ensure a safe grip without sacrificing the taste of a cigar or cigarette: the perfect glasses to enjoy the most eagerly-awaited moment after a long busy day.
Joe Colombo was born in Milan in 1930 and trained at the Brera Academy. His career as a designer began in 1953 and unfortunately ended prematurely in 1971. Joe Colombo was one of the most innovative industrial designers of the last century and thanks to his great acumen he was able to intuit the historical trends and social changes of the future.
Among his most important projects are the “Elda” and “Minikitchen” armchairs, designed in 1963, the “Spider” lamp, in 1967, the famous “Boby” trolley, in 1970. Joe Colombo has won 2 Compassi d’oro and many of his works have been exhibited at the MoMa and MMA in New York and at the Vitra Design Museum in Berlin.
